Fabricating a fixed steady for the " Allied  AMCO 7 x 20 G" mini lathe

Picture top left the sketch made of the proposed steady to be manufactured and will be made to fit the  "Allied Amco 7 X 20" lathe.

Picture in the center all the materials collect cut to the raw seizes and made ready to be machined.

Picture top right the main body machined to size and ready for the next step

Picture on the left part of the body machined to 89 mm OD by 68 mm ID .A slot milled , holes drilled and tapped m5 to take the next step of the process.

40 X 6 mm  flat mild steel stock fitted to the main body with s/s Allen screws this will have to be cut to size to have sitting  at exactly center height.

Picture top left the foot of the steady cut to size and all market out ready to machine the steps so it will fit the bed of the lathe , the dimensions : 25 X 15 X 90 mm bright mild steel.

Top center picture , machining the foot of the proposed steady to sit solidly on the lathe bed.

Picture top right all machined and a nice fit on the lathes bed

Picture left top , parts made and assembled fitted on top of the lathe bed and it looks nice and is a good fit.

Picture center bottom clamp machined drilled and tapped M8 , sizes are 50 x 25 x 15 mm, grooves on both side are 7.5 mm deep and 7.5 mm wide cut on the milling machine.

Picture top right all bolted together ready for the next step.

Picture top left steady fitted to the bed of the " Allied  Amco 7 X 20 G" lathe bed bolted down with an M 8 x 25 mm Allen cap screw.

Picture top center , steady lined up with the tail stock all looks good.

Picture top right all three holes drilled and tapped m 10 and surface milled flat to take the lock nut.

Pictures above temporary bolts fitted to determine the correct length which is m 10 x 50.

A adjusting bolt made from a m10 x 50 the head machined down to 19 mm and knurled, on the other end a 8mm bronze inserted this will act as a bearing surface.  The lock nut machined down to about halve the normal size.

The one completed bolt fitted to the steady , two more to go. Job completed and mounted on the lathe.

Steady finally finished and set up in the lathe and working perfectly.

Saddle lock for the  "Allied  AMCO 7 x 20 G "  Mini lathe.

Replacing the missing a saddle lock on the lathe . Material used is 20 mm round stock machined down to take a 6 mm thread over all length 70 mm. The eccentric nut is made from 20 mm stock and machined to 17 mm to fit the saddle and also tapped M 6 to take the spindle.

Picture on the far left the locking mechanism sort of assembled.
